The Zoo

Because of conferences Michael is off of school for the rest of the week so we took the opportunity yesterday to go to the Minnesota Zoo!

So off we went with four kids and we had a wonderful time walking thought the Tropics Trail looking at all kinds of animals. One of the highlights was listening to the Gibbons 'sing'. They make this really loud singing noise to claim their territory for feeding. It is really loud, but it also adds to the jungle feel of being at the zoo. Maybe next time I will try and get a video of them singing.

We got to the Coral Reef just in time to watch them feed the fish. It is always memorizing to see all the pretty fish swimming around. At the end of the show the kids got to put their hands on the 'glass' and then the diver put her hands on the other side of the 'glass' so that we could see how thick it was. It is actually acrylic and it it about 6 inches thick! If it was actual glass it would have to be twice as thick!

When we were done on the Tropics Trail we went and watched the Snow Monkeys. They have an exhibit outside but you can see it from inside and we watched the monkeys climb and play and roll in the grass.

Then we went down to Discovery Bay and watched the dolphins swim but the tank was very dirty. We don't why but I think it was algae??? Then we watched them feed the sharks and the sting rays in another tank.

That about concludes our morning at the zoo - by this time everyone was tuckered out! Unfortunately my camera battery was dead so I missed out on some great pictures. Oh well there is always next time:-)
